Heritage Story
Epping Uniting Church stands on the corner of Oxford Street and Chester Street in Epping and is recognised as a heritage building of local significance. Our church has been part of the Epping community for over a century.
The first congregation began worshipping in a small wooden building in 1913. As the community grew, the present church building was constructed and officially opened on 11 June 1927. Since then, it has remained a place of worship, gathering, and service at the heart of Epping.
Originally known as the Epping Congregational Church, it became Epping Uniting Church in 1977 with the formation of the Uniting Church in Australia, bringing together the Congregational, Methodist, and Presbyterian traditions.
One of the treasured features of our church is its pipe organ. Built in 1928 and carefully restored in 2009, it continues to enrich our worship and reflects our commitment to preserving both faith and heritage.
Our church is located near the East Epping Heritage Conservation Area, surrounded by historic homes and gardens that tell the story of this neighbourhood’s past. We also acknowledge that this land is part of the traditional Country of the Wallumedegal people, and we honour their enduring connection to this place.
Today, Epping Uniting Church continues its long story—holding together history and hope, tradition and openness, as we serve God and our community.
